How does Unseeded compare to traditional Toronto tennis clubs?

Toronto clubs charge $1,500–$3,500/year with multi-year waitlists. Unseeded is $45 flat for 5 real singles matches on public courts across 8 weeks. No initiation fees, no annual dues, no politics. Just show up, play, and go home.

Where do we play? Do I have to pay court fees?

You and your opponent choose the court. Most matches happen on free public courts in your zone (we map venues with 4+ courts for easy walk-on). Prefer a guaranteed time slot or playing indoors? Both players can agree in the in-app chat to book a pay-to-play court or bubble and split the booking fee 50/50.

What if people are waiting on our public court (30-min rule)?

Toronto public courts ask players to rotate if a queue forms. We recommend picking multi-court hubs (like High Park, Eglinton Flats, or Sir Adam Beck) or playing off-peak. If court time is limited, our official league rules let you play a 10-point Super Tiebreak for the deciding 3rd set so you finish cleanly without rushing.

Who brings the tennis balls?

Our league rule is simple: whoever proposes the court brings a fresh, unopened can of balls. After the match, the loser keeps the balls.

What if my opponent ghosts or cancels last minute?

This is why you pay $45 — to filter out flakes. If an opponent ignores messages for 5 days or cancels less than 4 hours before a match, you claim a walkover win. The league protects your time and your schedule.

How do you verify match scores?

The winner logs the score in the app and takes a quick joint selfie at the net with the loser. The loser then has 48 hours to confirm the score. No one can fake their way up the leaderboard.

What happens if it rains on match day?

Toronto weather happens. If rain washes out your match, one tap in the app automatically extends your round deadline by 3 days. No stress, no penalties.

What is the midseason cut?

After 3 rounds, every local group splits: the top half goes to the Championship bracket, the bottom half to Challenger. Your final 2 matches are against opponents who earned their spot — not random draws. It makes every point matter.

What if not enough people sign up in my zone?

This is Season 1 — we are building this from scratch. If your zone × division pool has fewer than 4 paid players by Draft Night (Sept 14), we either merge you into a nearby zone or issue a full refund. No questions, no delays. The $45 is risk-free.

You join in your neighbourhood and skill division. You'll be grouped with 5 nearby players. You play 3 matches first — then in the second half, winners play winners for the title.

Sign up in your area (Downtown, West End, North York, East End) and skill division. You are placed in a local group of 6 players at your exact level.

Stage 1 (First 3 matches)
Between Sept 15 and Oct 19, schedule and play 3 flexible matches with players in your group. You have about 10–12 days per match.

The Midseason Cut (Oct 19)
At the halfway mark, the top 3 in your group move into Championship to play for the title. The other 3 continue in Challenger for balanced competition.

Stage 2 (Final 2 matches)
Between Oct 20 and Nov 8, you play 2 fresh opponents from a neighbouring group who finished in the same tier as you.

City Rating (Elo)
Your rating updates after each match, showing your official ranking in Toronto. No player can "farm" easy wins to fake their rank.
